Conventional testing for Lyme disease and other tick borne illness may yield false negative results. The specialty Lyme and tick borne illness testing we use in office casts a more comprehensive net for identifying tick borne disease including Lyme disease, tick borne relapsing fever, co-infections, and opportunistic infections.

IGeneX Laboratories is one of the first Lyme and tick borne disease specialty labs that has been researching and developing new methodology for tick borne disease testing for over 25 years. One of the advantages of IGeneX labs is that they offer testing that utilizes the same principles as CDC recommended antibody based two tier testing but with more strains and species of Borrelia included along with comprehensive coinfection testing.

We frequently use IGeneX Immunoblot testing in patients with suspected tick borne illness to make sure we don’t miss a Borrelia infection, including tick borne relapsing fever.

Armin Labs is a company based out of Germany that specializes in T-cell testing for tick borne illness including Borrelia species, common co-infections as well as opportunistic bacteria and viruses. T-cell testing may be more beneficial than other immune based testing in early detection of Lyme disease. In addition, there is some evidence to suggest that T-cell testing may be used to distinguish between active disease and past infection which is more difficult to determine using antibody based testing for Lyme disease and other borrelia infections.
